Course Overview

This is a full day classroom-based training session for people working with people affected by Dementia. This course is designed to understand the signs and symptoms of Dementia and how these can present themselves through behaviour changes. The course will build on the theory from the Essential Level Dementia Virtual Classroom and will examine the causes of Dementia and the theoretical models of managing Dementia. There are real life case studies and scenarios and will support learners to further develop Communication toolkits that can be used with people to ensure that a person-centred planning approach is considerate of the individual. The course features a range of group work, activities and discussions to enhance learner skill development. This training session can be accessed via a link and is accessible from a range of devices including IOS and Android platforms.

 

This course offers a blended learning approach including a short scenario, a workbook, infographics and a classroom style training session.

Aims & Objectives

  • To define the common types, prevalence rates and term of Dementia.
  • To understand the risk factors for younger onset, diagnosis and signs and symptoms including delirium and depression.
  • Understand the key functions of the brain that are affected by dementia including memory.
  • Define the psychological needs and models of dementia.
  • Outline the legislation, standards and guidance for assessment and evaluation.
