Course Overview

The course raises awareness of the importance of providing children and young people with food that is safe to eat and promotes best practice in food hygiene in the home. The course covers what food poisoning is and how to recognise it, the causes of food poisoning and the 5 main ways to prevent food poisoning.  The activities are designed to reassure learners that they are already able to recognise some everyday hazards in the kitchen and are likely to be exercising good practice with regards to removing these hazards in their day to day work and which may identify gaps in their knowledge which they need to be aware of on their return to the home. Ultimately, this course should ensure that learners are aware of what they need to do in order to carry out best practice in food hygiene and increase their confidence to do so.

Learners participate in a number of whole group and small group discussions and activities to promote understanding and they complete a quiz at the end of the session to recap and consolidate learning
