Course Overview

The course raises awareness of the importance of Restorative Approaches and how they can be used to resolve various situations in care settings. The programme benefits from activities with on-going assessment making it engaging and interactive. Learners will be able to move away from authoritarian parenting approaches and resolve conflict through use of restorative interventions. They should be able to use communication skills to speak to children avoiding or causing feelings of guilt and shame. The course includes an overview of the principles of Restorative Approaches and progresses to provide learners with a more detailed understanding of how the principles can be applied to learning, increasing their confidence to apply within their practice. Learners are challenged to think through issues for themselves.

Aims & Objectives

  • Define Restorative Approaches and provide insight into how this has approached over time.
  • Explain the shift from authoritarian approaches and discuss how they differ from Restorative Interventions
  • Inform the learners of legislation, principles and key elements of Restorative Approaches.
  • Discuss the positive and negative aspects of Restorative Approaches.
  • Provide knowledge on how Restorative Approaches can benefit from the harmed and harmer.
  • Give strategies for learners to speak to Children based on their restorative approaches.
