Course Overview

This course is designed to support care workers with children and young people that experience spending time in custody. It helps staff understand their role and gives guidance to what is expected of them whilst supporting children and young people through the process of police custody.  It provides an understanding of the different aspects of being an appropriate adult and enables staff to be sure what their role is when a young person is in custody.  It includes the steps to take when supporting children and young people with charges that have been brought against them.

Learners should gain a clear understanding of what is expected of them and the limits to their role.  The activities encourage reflection that can be implemented into practice in the workplace.  The quiz in completed at the end of the course to consolidate learning and a session re-cap is held where the learner can ask any further questions and key factors are stated by the tutor.  Learners are given the opportunity to evaluate their learning experience.
